DC’s popular Wonder Woman movie, starring the incredible Gal Gadot, received a considerable amount of press, with women-only showings selling out across the United States when it came out. And Brie Larson famously took the leading role in Captain Marvel, coming in only behind Avengers: End Game at the box office—but this shouldn’t come as a surprise. After all, it’s the 21st century, and viewers everywhere are ready for female superheroes to continue stealing the spotlight.
While we’ve come a long way and the box office records prove it, we’re here to point out that gender inequality sucks and to shout-out some real life, hard working and inspiring “wonder women” who are making a difference across the globe.

Jaha Dukureh, originally from Gambia, founded Safe Hands for Girls to speak out against and prevent female genital mutilation (FGM) in the U.S. and abroad. A victim of such violence herself, Dukureh works to spread awareness and protect women and girls from an atrocious act that often subjects them to long-term complications and is a violation of their human rights.

Mhairi Black is the youngest British MP in the Commons since the 17th century. Black was only 20 years old at the time of her election as the new MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South. She has used her platform to push for greater diversity in Westminster, highlight the national food bank crisis, and call attention to LGBTQ+ issues as #TransAlly.
If you agree with her positions and think discrimination sucks then a .SUCKS domain is a great way to connect with other like-minded individuals online.
3. Dr. Laura Esserman and Dr. Shelley Hwang

Oncologists Laura Esserman and Shelley Hwang have been instrumental in groundbreaking research that offers breast cancer patients less invasive options to treatment. Their goal is to combat the “overtreatment” of breast cancer that often leads doctors and patients to rush into a mastectomy or lumpectomy when other options may be available to them.
Breast cancer sucks but so does unnecessary, invasive surgery, so work like theirs is vital.

Chika Oduah, 2014 winner of the Trust Women “Journalist of the Year” award, is a Nigerian-American journalist who worked for Al Jazeera as a writer, producer, correspondent and photographer until September, 2018. She reported on human rights, culture and conflict stories in sub-Saharan Africa and received much acclaim during her coverage of the kidnapping of 276 Chibok schoolgirls by Boko Haram in 2014.
Political violence sucks and spreading the word online is a great way to start a revolution.

At only 25 years old, Amy Kuhar was a staff member of the Hawaii Endangered Bird Conservation Program and worked at Keauhou Bird Conservation Center, where she cared for endangered Hawaiian forest birds. This included the Hawaiian Alala, of which only 114 exist in the world. Her work helped to take threatened species off the endangered list and to restore the biodiversity of targeted areas.
Kuhar knows that extinction sucks and is doing her part to help combat environmental crises.
